A Newari bhwey is a feast of the Newars of the valley which is traditionally served in a laptey, a plate made out of leaves of a Sal tree. Usually, thwo (rice wine) and aila (home brewed liquor) are also served in a saleencha, a disposable, palm sized clay saucer. Whether it is a festival, wedding or a family get-together, Newars don’t miss an opportunity to indulge in the feast.The meal accompanied by a round of complimentary Thwon (rice wine) or Aila (home brewed liquor) will be served in the following order.

Starter:
Chiura (crispy rice flakes)
Chhwela/sukula/takula (meat of your choice)
Khen (Fried boiled egg)
Woh (Black gram pancake with topping of your choice)
Musya palu (soybean and ginger strips)
Mix achar (spicy mixed traditional salad of radish, carrot and field peas)
Waauncha (green leafy vegetable of your choice)
Bhuti (Boiled and stir fried black eyed peas

Main:
Khaila (roasted chicken marinated with various spices)
Daykula (slow cooked meat stew)
Heynla (Ginger meat stew)/Hamwo kwaa (sesame based stew cooked with various spices)
Kauli-aalu (Fried cauliflower and potato) / Fasi kwaa (Pumpkin gravy)
Mee kwaa (curried Fenugreek soup)/Simpu (boiled & marinated white beans)
Ka-kwaa (Meat stew prepared with fermented rice) or Panchakwaa (Stew made with five ingredients including Black-eyed peas/ potato/ bamboo shoot)
Pukala (Fried offal assortment)

Takhaa (Jelly meat, served only during winter)
